About missions to Africa
NorthWest Missions travels to Kisumu, Kenya, Africa for evangelistic missions where we partnered with Pastor Benito Sabanga of Bethel City Church in Kisumu and availed ourselves to him and his schedule of events. Missionaries preach and teach in Bethel City Churches, witness and share testimony going door-to-door in neighborhoods, give evangelism messages at open-air crusades, walk the streets and share the Gospel and teach in cell groups. Tutoring orphans and street kids to read English and assisting with the feeding program for the street children is also an exciting time during these mission trips. It was the perfect opportunity for those who are shy & quiet but wanted to come along and intercede with prayer support in the background and find encouragment and confidence to share their faith!
Pastor Benito was a missionary to Kenya from his homeland of Congo, Africa. He has planted 8 churches during his missionary efforts in different areas of Africa. While the NorthWest Missions team concentrated its efforts in Kisumu, we also traveled to other areas to preach/teach and evangelize, always escorted by Pastor Benito. During the 2004 & 2005 mission trips most of our time was spent in Kisumu, however, we traveled to Kisii, a mountain town about 4 hours away where we spoke in his Bethel City Church plants there and also participated in the baptism of 22 new souls in much water baptism.

Synopsis of mission trips to Kisumu, Kenya, Africa
Have you ever been just a little bit tempted to go on an evangelistic mission trip but feel a bit insecure about your ability to share the Gospel? Not sure you know enough about the Bible? Not sure you know how to share the Gospel? Not sure what to expect? Think it sounds good but are just a little bit insecure and afraid to go forward?
Well, NorthWest Missions found just the perfect mission field for you. Mission trips to Kisumu, Kenya, Africa prove to be one of the most wonderfully, enriching experiences. One which would suit the most timid Christian to the most experienced evangelist. If you are looking for just the right mission field to get started then this is the one for you! Kisumu, Kenya, Africa where the hearts of the natives are ready and willing to hear the Gospel. We stayed with a Kenyan family while other accompanying missionaries stayed in a missions home. The Kenyans of the city of Kisumu are some of the nicest, friendliest, cheerful people you will ever meet! It is rare to go anywhere in this fine city and find yourself not treated like a king or queen. In fact, they seem to be sure God has sent you (the white man) to them just so you will tell them about Jesus. It doesn’t seem to matter how well articulated you are or how “miserably inept” you are to share the Gospel…they just are soooo thankful to hear it….. In fact, some of the most "jumbled" attempts to witness (not that anyone judges it or cares) see instant salvation responses. We are just so joy-filled to get to share in such an open environment. It is truly a rare experience which you will hold dear to your heart forever. We always see God is faithful to equip each of us for every good work! (2 Tim 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.) And when you return home, you will have gained confidence and assurance from your efforts and be ready to depart again for the next mission field.
We evangelized as we walked the streets, going door-to-door in neighborhoods , held open-air crusades, visited churches and simply shared the Gospel with all. In all the evangelism efforts we poured out, we found the Kenyan souls greet Jesus with joy and open hearts ready to receive Him and were thankful for our sharing Him with them. In fact, often as we were on bike taxis or matatus heading for appointments we heard people on the streets cry out to us, “hey white man, come back, we want to be saved”. We were so blessed as we shared the Gospel to see a powerful move of God on Muslims who gave up their Muslim faith to receive Christ as their Savior and become Christians. We saw families united who have several members saved, while one or more are unsaved. The discipleship of the new converts has continued after our departure through cell groups, church and continued evangelistic/discipleship efforts through Pastor Benito Sabanga’s Bethel City Church.

It is an incredible city to visit. One where you can see that God has indeed opened hearts and drawn them to Him. (John 6:65 And He said, "Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.") We certainly see the proof of a ripe harvest field prepared and readied by God for our work there. There is much wisdom in the advice to seek where God is working and go there”. Truly we saw God working in Kisumu, Kenya, Africa. |
